Illiteracy and poverty are devastating problems which often go
hand-in-hand. According to the
UNESCO, nearly 1
billion people worldwide are illiterate, of which about 130 million are
children.
Without at least a basic education, chances of attaining and
retaining a job capable of raising them out of poverty is slim, and
their children will most likely repeat their parent's cycle.
